Uganda President Yoweri Museveni and Tanzania’s Leader Samia Suluhu Hassan held bilateral talks at the State House in Dar es Salaam on Saturday, focusing on deepening cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
The leaders said the discussions centred on trade, infrastructure, and regional peace, reflecting longstanding ties dating back to the 1960s.

Hassan stated that the East African Crude Oil Pipeline Project was progressing as planned, with oil exports from Ugandan fields through Tanzania’s Tanga port expected to start in July.
She described the $5 billion electrically heated pipeline as a model of the strong relations and shared economic vision between both countries.
Discussions also centred on plans to integrate rail networks, develop natural gas and petroleum pipelines, and reduce trade barriers.Â
The visit marks Museveni’s first trip to Tanzania since securing a seventh term in Uganda’s recent elections.Â
It was also the first visit by a foreign head of state since Hassan’s re-election in Tanzania’s disputed October 2026 poll.
