American actor Shia LaBeouf was arrested in New Orleans early Tuesday morning after a violent altercation in the city’s historic French Quarter.

Local police were summoned to a business around 12:45 a.m. following reports that the 39-year-old actor had become “increasingly aggressive” toward staff.

According to investigators, the disturbance began when employees attempted to eject LaBeouf from the premises, at which point he allegedly struck one individual multiple times with closed fists.

The situation reportedly escalated further when LaBeouf briefly left the scene only to return with even greater hostility.

Witnesses informed authorities that the actor resumed his assault on the initial victim and then struck a second person in the nose.

After the confrontation, LaBeouf was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of his own minor injuries before being taken into custody. He now faces two misdemeanour counts of simple battery.

This latest arrest adds to a long history of legal and personal turmoil for the Transformers and Megalopolis star.

LaBeouf has frequently made headlines for public disturbances and allegations of violence, most notably a 2020 lawsuit filed by his former girlfriend, the musician FKA Twigs.

That case, which included serious accusations of sexual battery and assault, was only recently resolved through an out-of-court settlement reached last summer.

As news of the New Orleans incident spreads, it marks yet another setback for the actor’s public image, which he has attempted to rehabilitate in recent years through various independent film projects.

While the charges in this instance are misdemeanours, the repetitive nature of his legal entanglements continues to overshadow his professional work. LaBeouf has not yet issued a public statement regarding the charges or the events leading up to the arrest.
