The Nigerian Army has reported the recovery of at least 74 bodies of terrorists following intensified military operations in the North-East.

The Defence Headquarters said troops of Operation Hadin Kai successfully neutralised several insurgents and prevented a complex drone-assisted attack.

Maj.-Gen. Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations, briefed journalists in Abuja on Friday, providing an update on military activities between March 13 and March 19.

He confirmed that follow-up operations led to the recovery of 74 terrorist corpses along with weapons, including 38 AK-47 rifles, three PKT machine guns, and an RPG tube.

Troops reportedly repelled a major terrorist attack in Mallam Fatori, Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State, killing numerous fighters, including some senior commanders.

Military forces also “thwarted multiple infiltration attempts across Bama, Gujba, and Kaga local government areas, while key logistics suppliers and informants were arrested.”

Onoja noted that “Coordinated air and ground operations also repelled attacks in Baga, Damboa, Buratai, and Njimtilo, degrading ISWAP capabilities.”

In Taraba State, soldiers intercepted suspected gunrunners, recovering ammunition, cash, and motorcycles.

Meanwhile, troops rescued abducted victims in Plateau and Benue states and disrupted illegal mining operations in the Federal Capital Territory and surrounding areas.

“These operations demonstrate the Armed Forces’ resolve to deny criminal elements freedom of action and ensure the safety of citizens,” Onoja said.

In the Niger Delta, the military intensified efforts against oil theft and other criminal activities.

Operation Delta Safe led to the discovery of illegal oil bunkering sites and the interception of significant quantities of stolen petroleum.

Arrests were made in Delta, Bayelsa, and Rivers states for crimes including kidnapping, illegal refining, and drug trafficking.

Authorities dismantled “illegal refining sites, seized over 3,000 litres of illegally refined products, and intercepted vehicles and boats conveying stolen fuel.”

In the South-East, troops under Operation Udo Ka neutralised suspected terrorists and recovered improvised explosive devices in Imo State.

Clearance operations also led to arrests of suspected cultists and weapon seizures in Ebonyi and Cross River states.

Maj.-Gen. Onoja said the operations highlight the military’s ongoing commitment to protecting critical infrastructure and maintaining law and order across Nigeria.
