US President Donald Trump has called on countries dependent on oil from the Strait of Hormuz, such as the United Kingdom, to take a more assertive stance.
In a post on his Truth platform on Tuesday, Trump suggested that these nations should consider purchasing oil from the United States, which he claimed has a fuel surplus, or seize the Strait of Hormuz from Iran.
“Number 1, buy from the US, we have plenty,” Trump said, advocating for an alternative to the current reliance on Middle Eastern oil supplies.
“Number 2, build up some delayed courage, go to the Strait, and just TAKE IT,” suggesting a drastic approach.

According to him, countries that have historically shied away from confronting Iran should begin to learn to defend their own interests, rather than waiting for the United States to intervene.
“The U.S.A. won’t be there to help you anymore, just like you weren’t there for us,” Trump added.
The former president’s statement followed his broader narrative on Iran, in which he suggested that the hard work had already been done to weaken the Iranian regime, and his rhetoric reflects a sentiment of frustration towards allies he believes have been reluctant to support the war.
