Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) stars Ousmane Dembele and Marquinhos insisted their team remains ravenous for European glory ahead of Saturday’s Champions League final clash against Arsenal in Budapest.
The defending French champions claimed the trophy for the first time last season and now look to protect their crown against Mikel Arteta’s side, who chase their maiden title.
PSG captain Marquinhos explained that thrashing Inter Milan 5-0 in last year’s final gave the Ligue 1 squad an addictive taste of success that they desperately want to experience again.
Marquinhos revealed that the incredible emotions in the dressing room after last year’s triumph continue to fuel the team’s motivation and hunger.
He noted that the ambition to win has actually intensified this year, especially with dedicated fans—including his own father—making the long journey to Hungary by car to support the team.
Meanwhile, French forward Dembele emphasised that truly great players must win these major trophies multiple times, expressing total confidence in PSG’s young squad and incredible coaching staff.
The French side expects a fierce challenge from Arsenal, who boast the tournament’s strongest defence, remain unbeaten in their run to the final, and pose a lethal threat from set pieces.
Marquinhos acknowledged Arsenal’s tactical strengths, noting that the final will hinge on minor details such as defending counter-attacks and managing dead-ball situations.
He assured reporters that PSG has meticulously prepared for every tactical scenario.
Dembele also dismissed any lingering fitness concerns after recovering from a recent calf injury, confirming he took a proactive 15-day break to get into peak shape for the match.
Despite winning the Ballon d’Or last year for his starring role in PSG’s historic European run, the forward insisted that individual accolades remain a secondary thought.
He emphasised that his mind holds only one objective: executing his responsibilities on the pitch to secure another trophy for his club.
