A police inspector, Obodo Paul Ikechukwu, has died following a road accident involving a police convoy in Enugu State, sources said on Tuesday.

Ikechukwu, who served in the Operations Department of the Enugu State Police Headquarters, was fatally injured after being struck by a vehicle in the convoy, according to sources familiar with the incident.

The circumstances surrounding the accident remain unclear, but sources said the inspector was struck by a vehicle as the convoy moved through the area.

He was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries, a source told our correspondent.

Ikechukwu also held a Doctorate degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

Colleagues and associates described the deceased as a dedicated officer whose death has come as a shock to members of the police command and his community.

The inspector, who hailed from Nkpologu in Enugu State, had been serving in the command for several years.
