The Ogun State Police Command has foiled the activities of a suspected cattle theft syndicate in Sagamu. It also foiled a suspected abduction attempt along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in separate operations.
The command said the operations reflect its continued reliance on intelligence-led policing and rapid response to tackle criminal activities across the state.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command said operatives of the Sagamu Division arrested two suspects, recovered six stolen cows and seized a vehicle allegedly used by the syndicate.
“The Ogun State Police Command has continued in its proactive policing style as operatives of the Sagamu Division dismantled a suspected cattle theft syndicate with the arrest of two suspects, the recovery of six stolen cows, and the seizure of the syndicate’s operational vehicle,” the statement said.
It added that in a separate operation, “operatives of the Command’s Safer Highway Patrol Team thwarted an abduction attempt along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, rescuing the victim unhurt.”
According to the police, the breakthrough in the cattle theft case followed a distress call received in the early hours of July 25, reporting that suspected thieves had invaded a cattle yard in the Maskoli area of Sagamu and stolen seven cows.
Upon receiving the report, police operatives launched coordinated patrols along identified escape routes.
The suspects were identified as 35-year-old Abiodun Kamilu and 37-year-old Adesanya Segun.
Police said investigations were ongoing to arrest other members of the alleged syndicate and recover the remaining stolen cow.
In another operation on July 26, the command said officers of its Safer Highway Patrol Team foiled a suspected kidnapping attempt at Onigaari along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
According to the Babaseyi, the patrol team was conducting routine confidence-building patrols when officers heard gunshots and immediately moved to the scene.
“The swift response and tactical presence of the police forced the hoodlums to abandon their criminal mission and flee into the adjoining bush.”
The police said the victim was rescued unharmed. The command added that efforts were continuing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Reacting to the operations, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved for their professionalism and bravery. Ojajuni also assured residents that the command remained committed to maintaining security across the state.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support the police with credible and timely information, assuring them that every actionable report would receive prompt attention.
