Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has alleged that extrajudicial killings are taking place in the state, calling on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and ensure residents are protected ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
Speaking on Monday during the Accord Party governorship campaign rally in Olorunda Local Government Area, Adeleke appealed to the President not to ignore the situation, describing him as the father of all Nigerians.
The governor reminded Tinubu that the Accord Party had already endorsed him for a second term ahead of the 2027 presidential election, urging him to act in the interest of peace and justice.
Adeleke also warned against any attempt to manipulate the forthcoming governorship poll, insisting that Osun voters would defend their votes and resist electoral malpractice.
He further accused the police of taking sides in the state’s political crisis, alleging that security agencies had failed to remain neutral during the electioneering period.
The governor referenced the political violence that followed the disputed 1983 elections in the old Western Region, warning that stakeholders must ensure history does not repeat itself.
Adeleke maintained that he was confident of securing re-election if the poll was conducted freely and fairly, stressing that the people of Osun only wanted a transparent electoral process.
