Aston Villa signed Senegal striker Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea on Friday in a club-record deal worth a reported £65 million ($87 million).
The 25-year-old forward agreed to a five-year contract with the Europa League champions, reuniting him with Villa manager Unai Emery after their previous spell together at Villarreal.
Emery confirmed the signing during a Friday press conference ahead of Monday’s fixture against Arsenal.
Jackson spent last season on loan at Bayern Munich after former manager Enzo Maresca and current Blues boss Xabi Alonso excluded him from Chelsea’s first-team plans.
He leaves Stamford Bridge with 30 goals in 81 appearances, having helped Chelsea secure both the UEFA Conference League and the Club World Cup.
The arrival of Jackson fills the void left by striker Ollie Watkins, whose £50 million transfer to Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal is nearing completion.
Watkins, Villa’s top Premier League goalscorer, joins Ezri Konsa, Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans, and Lucas Digne in departing the club this transfer window after reportedly refusing to play in last weekend’s 4-0 loss to Brighton.
