Nigerian Vice-President Kashim Shettima arrived in New Delhi on Friday ahead of the 18th Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS) Summit, scheduled for September 12 and 13, 2026, under India’s chairship.
Nigeria is among the BRICS Partner Countries, alongside Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.

Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, also arrived in New Delhi to attend the summit.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres were among other high-level participants who arrived in the Indian capital on Friday.
India’s Minister of State for Education, Sukanta Majumdar, received Guterres.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Ugandan Vice-President Jessica Alupo also arrived ahead of the summit and were received by India’s Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Jayant Chaudhary.

South Africa is a BRICS member, while Uganda is one of the grouping’s partner countries.
Uruguayan Foreign Minister Mario Lubetkin and Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Maria Theresa P. Lazaro also arrived in New Delhi for the summit.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had arrived in the capital earlier and was received by India’s Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin have met in New Delhi during the 18th BRICS Summit, bringing together two leaders with longstanding bilateral ties.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov also arrived in New Delhi to participate in the summit.
Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank President Zou Jiayi was another senior official who arrived in the Indian capital.
India is hosting the 18th BRICS Summit on September 12 and 13 under its 2026 chairship, guided by the theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”
The chairship focuses on development, sustainability and innovation, while BRICS remains a platform for coordination among major emerging economies and for advancing the interests of the Global South in multilateral institutions.
The grouping’s agenda covers development, finance, technology, trade and people-to-people exchanges.
BRICS currently comprises 11 countries: Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates.
