The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has banned drones, fireworks, and other devices that could cause panic ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s one-day visit to the state on Friday.

Tinubu is expected to commission projects executed by Governor Umo Eno’s administration. He will also attend a political rally organised by the All Progressives Congress (APC) before the 2027 general elections.

The Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, announced the restrictions at a news conference in Uyo on Thursday. He said the measures were designed to ensure a peaceful visit and protect residents. Azare also advised residents to avoid routes designated for the President’s movement to allow his convoy to move freely.

He listed Airport Road, Iron Road and Ring Road III, which lead to the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, among the roads that would face restrictions during the visit.

The police commissioner also appealed to other political parties in the state to reschedule any political activities planned for Friday. He warned that the command would not tolerate attempts to disrupt the visit or cause public disorder. He added that officers were ready to respond to any security threat.

Meanwhile, Tinubu is expected to commission several projects during the visit. They include the new terminal building at Victor Attah International Airport, the Aviation Village, the Ring Road III Extension and Arise Resort Park in Uyo.
