African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour accused successive Lagos State administrations of prioritising wealthy residents over ordinary citizens.
Speaking Sunday during a governorship debate organised by the Nigeria Debate Consortium, the candidate—popularly known as GRV—faulted two decades of government policies for concentrating housing and infrastructure projects in elite neighbourhoods while neglecting vulnerable waterfront communities like Makoko.
He questioned whether the state’s rising internally generated revenue has produced any tangible benefits for everyday Lagosians.
“Lagos government, in the last 20 years, has focused on elite policies and eyebrow areas for housing. That’s why on paper, Lagos celebrates a high IGR, but on the ground, people are not feeling it. We would focus on people; our policies are tailored towards that,” Rhodes-Vivour declared during the broadcast.

He pledged that an ADC-led administration would deliver 100,000 affordable housing units and implement practical solutions to tackle traffic congestion, inadequate healthcare, and poor waste management across the expanding metropolis.
Stressing his commitment to citizen welfare, Rhodes-Vivour emphasised his focus on human-centred governance over corporate development.
“My manifesto has always stood with the people, putting the interest of the people first. I have that track record. We’re bringing solution thinking to the problems of Lagos State: waste management, traffic, healthcare, and housing,” he stated.
