Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) presidential candidate Seyi Makinde declared on Sunday that Nigeria requires a complete system reset rather than simple reforms.
Speaking on Jay FM radio in Jos ahead of his 2027 presidential campaign flag-off, Makinde insisted that economic progress must be reflected directly in the living conditions of ordinary citizens rather than abstract statistical metrics.
He linked worsening national security directly to youth unemployment, warning that failing to create viable economic paths for the country’s youth creates a recipe for larger future conflicts.

“You have a button, a reset button. Basically, you will shut down everything, reboot it, and then you have a clearer path to proceed with your programme going forward,” Makinde stated while explaining why current administrative structures fail to deliver results.

He questioned official economic claims, asking, “What is the ordinary man on the street feeling? Are they able to feed themselves?”
To resolve persistent security challenges, Makinde pledged to decentralise the nation’s security architecture by enabling states to establish their own police forces.
Drawing parallels to his decision to forgo total COVID-19 lockdowns in Oyo State by applying local logic and data, he argued that states ready to fulfil safety requirements should move forward independently.
“If you think you are ready, you have ticked the boxes and put the safeguards in place; you should go ahead and secure your state,” Makinde said, adding that “reform is not going to work within the environment we are in.”
