A building has collapsed in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, barely hours after the Development Control Department of the Federal Capital Territory Administration sealed the structure and ordered occupants to vacate the premises.
The building reportedly collapsed around 8 pm on Monday, prompting a rescue operation involving officials of the Federal Fire Service and other emergency responders.
Emergency personnel were deployed to the scene to search the rubble and rescue anyone who may have been trapped following the collapse.
Three ambulances were also stationed at the scene as emergency responders worked to evacuate any casualties found in the debris.
Details surrounding the cause of the collapse remained unclear as of press time.
The incident, however, has renewed concerns over the safety of ageing and distressed buildings in Abuja, particularly structures previously identified by regulatory authorities as posing safety risks.
The rescue operation was still ongoing as of the time of filing this report.
