APC Wins All Kogi Council Seats

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 21 chairmanship seats and 239 councillorship positions in the Kogi State local government elections.

The polls were held on Saturday across the state’s 21 local government areas and 239 wards. The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) announced the results on Sunday after completing the collation exercise at its headquarters in Lokoja.

KOSIEC Chairman Mamman Nda-Eri said the APC won all the contested chairmanship and councillorship seats across the state. He described the election as peaceful and credible, adding that it was conducted in line with electoral guidelines. He also commended security agencies, election observers, journalists and voters for their orderly conduct.

According to Nda-Eri, the conclusion of the polls marked the completion of the 13 activities the commission outlined for the 2026 local government elections. The process began almost a year ago. He added that Certificates of Return would be issued to the winners in due course.

Meanwhile, the outgoing chairmen and councillors are expected to leave office this month after completing their two-year tenure. They were sworn in on October 23, 2024, under the state’s electoral law.
