Manchester United manager Michael Carrick vowed to prioritise the club’s best interests after a crushing 3-0 home defeat against Bournemouth pushed his managerial tenure to the brink on Sunday.
The loss extended United’s winless streak to eight matches across all competitions, leaving the 20-time English champions sitting just one point above the Premier League relegation zone.
Addressing his uncertain future after the match, Carrick admitted, “It’s a tough situation… What is next? I don’t know. I’ll always do what’s best for this football club.”

Carrick sparked widespread scrutiny by benching captain Bruno Fernandes for the entire match, following the midfielder’s public critique of team tactics after Wednesday’s 4-1 loss to Como.
When questioned about leaving out last season’s Premier League player of the year, Carrick sidestepped confrontation, stating, “There are always times in games when you are trying to change the course of the game and to make a difference. Those were the decisions we made today.”

Despite the demoralising result, the Old Trafford crowd largely directed their anger at the squad rather than the manager, offering Carrick support as he left the pitch.
Acknowledging the fans’ reaction, Carrick reflected, “I have mixed emotions about having that connection with the supporters in the moment we’re in… We haven’t been good enough.”
