Suspected bandits have attacked Yashikira community in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State, setting parts of the Emir’s palace on fire and abducting several residents, including women and children, during a late-night invasion.
Residents said the heavily armed attackers stormed the border community in the early hours of Sunday, firing gunshots indiscriminately and causing panic among villagers who were caught off guard.
Sources within the community disclosed that the gunmen targeted the palace during the assault, burning sections of the royal residence before taking away multiple victims.
Locals described the attack as terrifying, saying the assailants operated for hours without any immediate resistance, leaving widespread fear and destruction in their wake.

Security operatives have since launched rescue operations following the abduction, with military and police personnel reportedly deploying to the area in an effort to secure the release of about 10 persons believed to have been taken away during the attack.
Sources also said the attackers attempted to invade nearby police stations but were repelled by security personnel.
As of the time of filing this report, the police had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
The latest attack comes barely a day after suspected bandits reportedly invaded a prayer ground at Ori-Oke Ajaiye on the outskirts of Ikiran village in Kwara State’s Ekiti Local Government Area, where three worshippers were killed and 15 others abducted during a night vigil.
