Gunmen have killed at least 30 people in Nigeria’s northwestern Zamfara state, according to a security report prepared for the United Nations and seen by AFP on Monday.
The victims were travelling along a highway late on Sunday when they were ambushed by an armed group referred to locally as “bandits,” the report said.

The attackers killed “30 individuals, including civilians, hunters and a community protection guard,” according to the report.
The incident occurred in Zamfara state, one of the areas in northwestern Nigeria most affected by banditry, where criminal gangs frequently carry out mass abductions and killings.
