Thousands of jubilant fans flooded the streets of Yaounde on Monday to welcome home the Cameroonian women’s football team following their historic Women’s Africa Cup of Nations victory.
Supporters waving flags, wearing jerseys, and holding up phones greeted the Indomitable Lionesses on the tarmac after they returned from Morocco, where they defeated Malawi 3–0 in Sunday’s final to capture their first WAFCON title.
The celebrations paralysed the capital as crowds lined the sidewalks to cheer the team during their victory parade through the city.
The unexpected triumph capped a remarkable run for Cameroon, who only entered the tournament after officials expanded the field from 12 to 16 teams in November.

Fans praised the squad’s determination, while 93-year-old President Paul Biya congratulated the “valiant, talented and intrepid” players on X for their stellar performance.
Félicitations à nos valeureuses, talentueuses et intrépides Lionnes Indomptables !
