The Scottish Football Association officially withdrew its support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino on Monday following his unsuccessful attempt to sell stakes in the World Cup.

Scotland joins a growing group of European nations, including England, Ireland, and Wales, that have abandoned Infantino ahead of next year’s FIFA Congress re-election vote.

Scottish FA Chief Executive Ian Maxwell confirmed the decision, stating, “The Scottish FA will not be voting for Gianni Infantino. That’s in line with the UEFA position, and we’ve maintained that stance throughout.”

Infantino faces intensifying scrutiny after three major football confederations published an open letter accusing him of deception regarding his private investor proposal.

Maxwell criticised the current leadership’s approach to management and institutional oversight, noting that SFA President Mike Mulraney currently chairs FIFA’s finance committee.

“There’s obviously been a fall-down in governance, there’s been a lack of transparency, and there’s been a lack of engagement with member associations, and that’s something that we need to address,” Maxwell stated.
