European Parliament deputy Raphael Glucksmann announced his candidacy for France’s presidential election on Sunday.
The 46-year-old leader of the centre-left Place Publique party declared his intent to “lift up France,” entering a crowded campaign field spanning far-right figures, centrists, and left-wing candidates.
Glucksmann’s candidacy directly impacts his partner, Lea Salame, a prominent newsreader on France 2 television.
Salame is expected to step aside from her presenting role to avoid conflicts of interest, following earlier discussions between the couple regarding the political move.
Highlighting his background outside traditional political circles, Glucksmann pointed to his past work on international anti-genocide efforts in Rwanda and his role as an adviser to former Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili.

To consolidate left-wing support against candidates like Marine Le Pen, Glucksmann plans to participate in an October primary alongside the Socialist Party.
