Gunmen Kill Bus Driver, Abduct Passengers in Edo 

Gunmen have killed a bus driver and abducted an unspecified number of passengers in Edo State during a highway attack.

The commercial bus, which was travelling from Lagos to the eastern part of the country, reportedly came under heavy gunfire, forcing it to stop abruptly.

A viral video captured the aftermath of the incident, with an unidentified voice alleging that the attackers opened fire on the vehicle before taking passengers into the bush.

The narrator was heard saying the driver was shot dead during the attack, while several passengers were taken away, though the exact number abducted remained unclear.

Confirming the incident, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Eno Ikoedem, said the attack occurred within the Iguobazuwa Police Division area.

She said police authorities had launched a manhunt for the suspects, noting that nearby divisions had been mobilised to support ongoing search-and-rescue operations.

According to her, the Commissioner of Police directed coordinated bush-combing efforts to rescue the abducted passengers and apprehend those responsible.

She further stated that additional security operations were ongoing to strengthen safety along the affected highway.
