Iranian authorities are laying the groundwork for a grand funeral for slain supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, following a lengthy postponement due to the country’s war with the United States and Israel.

State television reported that a special headquarters has been formed to plan and arrange the ceremony, though officials have not yet confirmed the final timing.

Khamenei, who led the Islamic Republic for over three decades, died during the initial wave of U.S.-Israeli airstrikes that launched the war on February 28.

The military strikes also wounded his son and successor, Mojtaba Khamenei, who has completely avoided public appearances since assuming office.

While officials organised a tribute event for the elder Khamenei in April, ongoing wartime conditions forced them to cancel the initially scheduled state funeral.

Mohsen Mahmoudi, head of the Tehran Coordination Council for Islamic Propaganda, stated that multiple organisations are working together to ensure a massive turnout once the government officially announces the ceremony date.

Although a ceasefire has largely held since taking effect in April, a definitive peace deal to end the conflict remains elusive.
