Iran’s security chief has rejected talks with the United States (US) after President Donald Trump signalled openness to resuming discussions on the Middle East war.
Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, dismissed Trump’s latest comments on Tuesday.
“Don’t get distracted by the U.S. president’s mixed signals — from ‘no negotiations’ to ‘we’re ready to talk’,” Rezaei wrote on X.
“The stakes around oil and the straits have changed. Damage control won’t stop what’s coming. No talks until Iran’s conditions are met. Period!” he added.
Trump said on Monday that he was open to talks with Iran after weeks of insisting it was too early to negotiate an agreement to end the war.
“The failing Nation of Iran wants to make a deal, quickly and badly,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
“I will determine whether or not the U.S.A. will choose to engage — The concept of which we are open to,” he added.
Iran has repeatedly demanded war reparations and the lifting of sanctions as conditions for ending the conflict and its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
The rejection comes as tensions remain high between Washington and Tehran, with both sides maintaining sharply different positions on how the war could end.
