Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has commissioned the newly completed Body of Benchers Connector Road C-01, linking the Nigerian Law School, Nile University, and Baze University in Abuja, describing the project as proof that the Tinubu administration is delivering on its promises.
Speaking on behalf of President Bola Tinubu at the commissioning ceremony on Wednesday, Shettima said the road is more than just a transport project.
“We promised renewed hope. Today, as we stand on this newly constructed Connector Road C-01, complete with its bridge, we are not just looking at a physical road, we are looking at a promise kept,” Shettima said.

The Vice President explained that the road forms part of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)’s institutional research district and will improve access between major educational institutions and surrounding communities.
He added that the road extension towards RR3 and other parts of Abuja will connect the district directly to the city’s wider road network.
“It means fewer bottlenecks, faster travel, and stronger links between campuses, communities and commercial hubs,” he said.
Shettima recalled that the project was approved following complaints from the Body of Benchers about traffic congestion during last year’s Nigerian Law School Call to Bar ceremony.
“We could not have the legal luminaries of our nation navigating potholes to train our future advocates. We could not have students arriving late to lectures because of a lack of a simple bridge,” he added.
He noted that the project was approved under emergency procurement and completed within months.
According to the Vice President, the road has restored easier movement for students, lecturers and residents while creating hundreds of direct and indirect jobs during construction.
“Infrastructure is the greatest enabler of economic prosperity. When you build roads, you open up districts. When you open up districts, you invite investment. And when investment comes, Nigeria grows,” he said.
Shettima also praised the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, for driving infrastructure development across Abuja.
“You have proven once again that when you are given a job, you do not sleep until it is done,” he said.
He urged the universities, the Nigerian Law School, the Body of Benchers and residents to protect the road, saying it reflects the government’s commitment to building infrastructure that supports education and national development.
