The Nigerian Ministry of Education has debunked a statement alleging that the National Award Scholarship has been suspended and that the scholarship board has been dissolved.

In a statement posted on X on Friday, the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo, clarified that the scholarship board has only been renamed the Department of Scholarship Awards (DSA) under the Ministry of Education, while its mandate to administer Nigerian Government scholarship programmes remains unchanged.

The ministry condemned the spread of false information causing confusion among students and families.

Boriowo reassured students, parents, and beneficiaries that all recognised scholarship programmes remain active and uninterrupted.

She explained that only the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) Scholarship Programme was discontinued following a policy review aimed at strengthening local tertiary education.

According to her, the decision does not affect domestic schemes such as the Nigerian Scholarship Awards, the Government Bursary for Education students, and the Presidential Scholarship for ex-NYSC corps members.

Boriowo added that existing BEA beneficiaries will continue to receive full support until they complete their studies, while local scholarship and student loan programmes are being strengthened.

She also urged the public to disregard the fake notice, stating that it did not originate from the ministry.
