First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has said Nigerians who fail to recognise what she described as progress under President Bola Tinubu’s administration may need “Bola Tinubu eyeglasses”.

She stated this on Friday while inaugurating the Abuja headquarters of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, a grassroots group campaigning for President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Oluremi Tinubu said developments were taking place across the country but suggested that some Nigerians were unable to see them.

She referenced Jigi-Bola, an eye-care initiative introduced by Tinubu during his tenure as Lagos State governor in 2001, saying those who could not see the changes might need the initiative’s services.

“So things are happening in Nigeria, except, you know, those who don’t see; maybe we’ll give them some, you know, Bola Tinubu eyeglasses. We are doing that, JigiBola,” she said.

The programme provides eye screening, eyeglasses and surgery and was relaunched by the Lagos State Government in 2021.

She said she hoped to leave the Presidential Villa in 2031 and step into a better Nigeria that she could enjoy in her 70s.

“I want to leave Aso Rock, in 2031, by the grace of God, and enter a Nigeria that me as a 70-something-year-old woman will enjoy,” she said.

At the event, she formally commissioned the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement’s Abuja campaign headquarters and expressed support for her husband’s re-election bid.

“So to the glory of God, and for the victory of Mr President come 2027, I hereby formally commission the PBAT door-to-door movement campaign headquarters Abuja,” she said.
