A Russian drone strike on a bus near Ukraine’s southern frontline has killed five people and wounded seven others, Ukrainian officials said on Wednesday.
According to Dnipropetrovsk regional governor Oleksandr Ganzha, the attack happened in Nikopol district, Dnipropetrovsk region.
“Five people have been killed and at least seven wounded as a result of an enemy strike on a minibus in the Nikopol district. The Russians hit the bus with a drone,” Ganzha said, adding that seven people were also wounded.
Photos released by Ukrainian officials showed a white minibus with shattered windows.
Blood could also be seen running down the side of the vehicle.
The attack happened near the frontline in southern Ukraine, where Russian forces have continued to target areas close to the Dnieper River. Nikopol sits across the river from the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
Russian forces have occupied the plant since the early days of their 2022 invasion of Ukraine. The latest attack comes as civilian deaths in Ukraine continue to rise.
The United Nations (UN) has said civilian casualties are now at their highest level since the first months of the war, following an escalation in Russian strikes.
