Security operations have successfully repelled an attack by armed bandits on Kanoma Town and Gidan Daji Village in Kanoma District, Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Nigeria.
According to a statement on Wednesday by the police spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, the attack happened on Tuesday. A large group of bandits stormed the communities with heavy weapons, including RPGs, GPMGs, anti-aircraft guns, and AK-47 rifles.
Security operatives responded quickly after receiving a distress call.
A combined team of police tactical units from Maru Division, soldiers from Operation Fansan Yamma, members of the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), and local vigilantes were deployed under the leadership of the Divisional Police Officer.
“The security team engaged the assailants in a gun duel, forcing them to retreat and preventing the attack from succeeding,” the statement said.

During the operation, six bandits riding on two motorcycles were killed, while several others escaped into nearby forests with suspected gunshot wounds.
Police confirmed that no security personnel or residents were killed in the attack.
Authorities say security presence in the area has been strengthened, with increased patrols to prevent further attacks and track down fleeing suspects.
The police also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and useful information to help maintain peace in the area.
