Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima announced on Saturday that he will mark his 60th birthday on September 2, 2026, with a low-key observance, asking well-wishers to forgo public parties and paid media greetings.
A statement issued by Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications Stanley Nkwocha emphasised that Shettima chose to avoid elaborate festivities so public attention remains squarely on national governance.
To enforce this low-key approach, the Vice President specifically appealed to friends and associates to refrain from placing congratulatory advertisements in newspapers or airing celebratory messages on radio, television, and digital platforms.
Instead of media campaigns or festive gatherings, Shettima asked supporters to channel their goodwill into quiet reflection and prayers for Nigeria’s economic recovery, security, and national unity.
“To ensure absolute propriety, I respectfully appeal that there should be no public birthday celebrations, congratulatory gatherings or goodwill advertorials across print, broadcast and digital media platforms,” Shettima said, stressing that the milestone should serve as a moment of gratitude and renewed dedication to public service rather than personal fanfare.
