Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner captured the Italian Open title on Sunday with a commanding 6-4, 6-4 victory over Casper Ruud.
The triumph marks a record-extending sixth consecutive Masters 1000 tournament win for the unstoppable Italian, who has completely dominated the ATP circuit over the past year.
With this triumph, Sinner joins Novak Djokovic as the only player in tennis history to achieve the “Golden Masters” by winning all nine of the ATP’s top-ranked events.
The victory carries immense local significance, as Sinner became the first home-soil champion at the Foro Italico since Adriano Panatta, exactly 50 years ago.
He heads into Roland Garros next weekend on a staggering 29-match winning streak, alongside a record-breaking 34 consecutive match wins in Masters 1000 events.

Ruud, who has won more matches and titles on clay than any other player on the men’s tour since 2020, entered the match having never won a set against Sinner in their previous four meetings.
The Norwegian showed early resilience by breaking Sinner’s serve and claiming the first two games of the match, a vast improvement on the heavy defeat he suffered at the hands of the Italian in Rome the previous year.
However, Sinner broke straight back to level the opening set, eventually grinding down the world number 25 to take the lead before breaking early in the second set to comfortably secure the championship in front of a packed home crowd.
With his closest rival, Carlos Alcaraz, currently sidelined with an injury, Sinner is heavily favoured to complete his career Grand Slam collection on the Paris clay at the upcoming French Open.
His historic victory capped off an incredibly successful day for the host nation at the Foro Italico.
Earlier in the afternoon, the Italian pairing of Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori also delighted the home fans by clinching the men’s doubles crown, upsetting second seeds Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos in a tense match tiebreak.
