The Lagos State Government has warned residents to prepare for thunderstorms and a high risk of flooding across several parts of the state on Friday.

According to the state’s weather outlook for Friday, July 3, 2026, shared on X by the Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, thunderstorms accompanied by rain are expected from midnight through the early hours of the day in parts of the state, while cloudy skies and intermittent showers are forecast to persist throughout the day.

The weather advisory indicates that communities expected to experience thunderstorms accompanied by rain between midnight and sunrise include Ibeju-Lekki, Epe, Eti-Osa, Ikorodu, Kosofe, Ikeja and surrounding areas.

The government also warned that overcast skies and additional thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall are expected between sunset and midnight in several coastal and inland areas of the state.

Beyond the rainfall forecast, the government cautioned residents about a heightened risk of flooding, particularly in flood-prone communities.

It urged residents to avoid indiscriminate waste disposal that could block stormwater drainage channels and advised them to use only licensed Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators for proper waste collection and disposal.

“There is a high risk of flooding, especially in flood-prone areas,” the advisory stated.

“As such, residents of Lagos should avoid dumping waste to reduce clogging of the stormwater channels and instead patronise the licensed PSP operators to properly handle their waste.”

The government also encouraged residents to remain alert and take necessary precautions as the rainy season persists, reminding the public to “stay safe, stay informed and stay prepared.”
