President Bola Tinubu, who “took the bullets” to save Nigeria from fiscal disaster, is “even more willing to take additional bullets to make all Nigerians safe,” a presidential spokesperson has said.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, made the remarks in a statement on Friday as the administration marked three years in office.

“It has not been all rosy the past three years, especially in the area of making our people safe from the band of bandits and terrorists,” Onanuga wrote.

He said the armed forces have been locked in an asymmetrical war against terrorists and bandits, neutralising their leaders and foot soldiers in several theatres of conflict.

However, “the displaced terrorists are attacking vulnerable areas in some of the states, killing and kidnapping”, he admitted.

Onanuga said the government is “unrelenting in providing the armed forces, intelligence agencies, and police with the tools they need to wage the war.”

With support from friendly governments, including the United States, France and the United Kingdom, he expressed hope that “the menace of kidnappers and their political sponsors will become history.”

The presidential aide earlier detailed the economic reforms undertaken by Tinubu, including the removal of the fuel subsidy and the unification of the naira’s exchange rates, measures that triggered a sharp rise in living costs but which his government says were necessary to avert fiscal disaster.

“The man who has taken the bullets to make Nigeria survive a fiscal disaster is even more willing to take additional bullets to make all Nigerians safe,” Onanuga stated.
