Togo has announced visa-free entry for citizens of all African countries holding valid national passports for up to 30 days.
Calixte Batossie Madjoulba, Togo’s Minister of Security, in a statement issued on Monday, announced that it took effect from Monday.
“The Minister of Security informs the national and international public of the decision taken by the President of the Council to grant, effective today, Monday, May 18, 2026, exemption from entry visas for all nationals of African states holding a valid national passport,” said Madjoulba.
“This measure reflects the consistent commitment of the highest Togolese authorities to promote African integration, strengthen the free movement of people and goods, and encourage greater cooperation among the states and peoples of the continent.”

The minister noted that travellers are not exempt from complying with Togo’s security, immigration, and public health requirements applicable upon entry into the country.
African travellers are required to complete their travel declaration on the website at least 24 hours before their arrival to obtain a slip they will present at Togo’s borders. According to Madjoulba, this slip constitutes a prior administrative and security formality.
“The visa exemption measure does not prevent the application of legal and regulatory provisions relating to irregular entry, illegal stay, as well as administrative police and national security measures,” he added.
“Relevant administrations and services have been instructed to take all necessary measures to ensure the effective implementation of this provision at all land, air, and sea entry points.”
Togo joins the growing list of African countries, such as Benin, Rwanda, Seychelles, The Gambia, and Kenya, in easing travel restrictions across Africa.
