TotalEnergies Flags New Oil Discovery in Angola

French energy giant TotalEnergies announced a new offshore oil discovery in Angola on Thursday while securing agreements to acquire a 40 per cent operated interest in two new exploration blocks.

The new Acacia-5 discovery will boost production at the company’s existing Block 17 by 6,000 barrels per day.

The French energy giant plans to fast-track development to achieve first oil within three months following the initial discovery made in June 2026.

To expand its footprint in the region, the company signed deals with Angola’s petroleum regulator, Agência Nacional de Petróleo, Gás e Biocombustíveis (ANPG).

Under these agreements, TotalEnergies will enter exploration Blocks 17/25 and 32/21 in the Lower Congo Basin as the primary operator.

TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanné confirmed that the company and its partners plan to invest $10 billion in Angolan operations over the next five years.
