White House Reschedules Dinner After Shooting

The White House Correspondents Association (WHCA) has rescheduled its annual dinner for July 24, following a security incident that disrupted the original event in April.

The gala was earlier interrupted on April 25 after shots were fired at a security checkpoint outside a Washington hotel, forcing the evacuation of President Donald Trump and other guests.

A California man, Cole Allen, has since pleaded not guilty to charges including attempted assassination of the president. In an email to members on Tuesday, WHCA President Weijia Jiang confirmed the new date for the event.

“I am proud to announce we will host another dinner to be held in Washington, DC on Friday, July 24th,” Jiang said.

She added that the association would not allow violence to define the moment.

“We will not allow an act of violence to have the last word,” she said.

According to Jiang, the rescheduled dinner will feature enhanced security measures and stricter access controls.

“The event will feature significantly enhanced safety measures and new access procedures,” she said, noting that it will also be a more intimate gathering.

Details regarding the venue, tickets, and programme are expected to be announced later.

The WHCA dinner is traditionally attended by journalists, political figures, and government officials, but it remains unclear whether President Trump will attend the rescheduled event.
