A 20-year-old man, Pascal Ogbogu, has allegedly killed his 56-year-old father with a machete in Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening, August 25, 2026, after Ogbogu allegedly attacked his father and fled the scene.
According to the Anambra State Police Command, a distress report prompted police operatives from the Eziowelle Police Division, alongside family members and members of the Abatete Vigilante, to mobilise to the scene.
The deceased was found lifeless in a pool of blood with a deep machete wound to the throat. His remains were subsequently evacuated to a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The police said Ogbogu was apprehended in the early hours of Wednesday through the coordinated efforts of security operatives, family members, vigilante personnel and community members.

The state police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday.
He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Ama, commended those who contributed to the suspect’s arrest and stressed the importance of community participation and timely information sharing in tackling crime.
The CP has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The police assured the deceased’s family and the public that the investigation would be conducted professionally and thoroughly, while the suspect would face due process under the law.
