Firefighters Put Off at Kenya’s Mount Longonot

 A fire outbreak has consumed sections of Kenya’s Mount Longonot, which is a popular tourist and hikers’ destination in the Rift Valley region.

According to Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), the fires which started on Thursday has been put out.

KWS “assure that the park is safe to all visitors,” debunking claims making the rounds that there had been a volcanic eruption.

The mountain, which is a dormant volcano, has been one of the most talked about topics on social media, with some users claiming they experienced earth tremors as a result of the supposed eruption.

Although investigations are on, the cause of the fire on the mountain is yet to be established. Last year, a similar outbreak of fire burnt a portion of vegetation in the park to ashes.
