Napoli’s Title Push Stalls with Draw Against Genoa, Giving Inter Hope

Napoli’s hopes of winning a second Serie A title in three seasons were dealt a blow with a 2-2 draw against Genoa on Sunday, which allowed Inter Milan to close the gap to just one point behind the league leaders following their dramatic 2-0 victory at Torino.

With only two matches left in the season, Antonio Conte’s team can still secure the Scudetto by winning their remaining games against Parma and Cagliari. However, Inter now have renewed hope of retaining their title after Johan Vasquez’s powerful header brought Genoa level late in the game at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Napoli’s coach, Luciano Spalletti, was visibly frustrated, stating, “They had two shots on target and scored two goals. It’s frustrating because we should have won given what we created and how we played. But we need to focus on winning the remaining matches.”

Despite the setback, Napoli still managed to take the lead through Giacomo Raspadori’s brilliant control and finish in the 64th minute, which seemed to put them on the verge of securing the title. However, their joy was short-lived as Genoa’s Vasquez scored in the final moments of the match to add to Napoli’s frustration.

The hosts also suffered a blow when midfielder Stanislav Lobotka was forced off early with an ankle injury, a further complication for Spalletti’s side.

Meanwhile, the pressure was on Inter, who responded in dramatic fashion with a 2-0 victory at Torino. Inter coach Simone Inzaghi acknowledged the importance of the win, stating, “It’s not in our hands, but we can only focus on doing our job. We have a few days’ rest before our next match.”

Despite the interruptions, including a break for a Torino supporter’s injury and torrential rain delaying the match, Inter’s determination paid off. The team clinched just their second away win in eight Serie A matches, with goals from Nicola Zalewski and Kristjan Asllani.

Now, with the season’s final stretch in sight, Inter is within striking distance of Napoli, but with just two games remaining, the title race promises to be tightly contested.

Earlier, Verona moved five points clear of relegation after a 1-1 home draw with Lecce, boosting their survival chances with only two matches left.
