British-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua has publicly addressed the fatal road accident that claimed the lives of two close friends late last year, describing the loss as deeply painful.
In a video shared on his verified Instagram account on Thursday, the former heavyweight champion mourned Latif Ayodele, known as Latz, and Gami Sina, calling them brothers rather than friends.
He said the outpouring of support he received during the period helped him through what he described as an overwhelming and traumatic experience.
“So this is the best way I could reach out to all of you, far and wide, worldwide, who were showing so much love, care, and support through that tragic, traumatic time where we lost Latz and Sina in Nigeria.”
Joshua recalled that the accident, which occurred on December 29, 2025, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, came at a time when the group had just made plans to end the year together.
He said they had recently reunited in Miami before returning separately to Nigeria to spend time with family, only for events to take a devastating turn.

The boxer said the deaths had left a lasting impact not only on him but also on the families and wider circles connected to the two men, whom he described as central figures in many lives.
He explained that their relationship had evolved from friendship into a close professional partnership built on trust and shared goals.
“Not only did their parents, their uncles, their cousins, their friends, and I lose two great men, but we also lost people that we dearly care about. They were major players in all of our lives.
“They’re my brothers; they’re my friends first and foremost, and then we became business partners. We became everything.”
Joshua, who sustained injuries in the crash, said he remained committed to supporting the families of the deceased and helping them fulfil plans his friends had made before their deaths.
He noted that his focus was on doing what he believed was morally right for those left behind.
“I understand my duty. I understand what they wanted to do for their families, so my goal is to continue to help them achieve their goals, even though they may not be here in the physical.
“It isn’t about legacy. It’s just doing what’s right, and I know what I’m going to do, what’s right for them and what’s right for their family,” he said.
He also expressed gratitude to emergency responders and members of the public who assisted at the scene, saying their actions and prayers were vital during the chaotic moments after the crash.
Joshua thanked the medical staff at Lagoon Hospital in Ikoyi for their care, singling out several doctors for their professionalism.
He also acknowledged the support of the British Deputy High Commissioner and Deputy Head of Mission, Simon Field, as well as Nigerian business leaders Femi Otedola and Aliko Dangote, whom he credited with facilitating his return to the United Kingdom.
The boxer further extended his appreciation to Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, and senior security officials for what he described as their personal involvement and consistent follow-up after the incident.
