A group of assailants suspected to be members of the deadly Boko Haram sect have attacked Sheweri and Kirchinga, the hometown of Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
The attacked towns are in the Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State. Kirchinga has also been subjected to similar attacks in 2014 and 2020.
The terrorists reportedly stormed the community in the early hours of Tuesday, forcing residents of the community to flee into nearby bushes. An unspecified number of people lost their lives in the attack as security forces struggled to contain the violence.
According to Naija News, the terrorists, who were heavily armed, stormed Sheweri at dawn, razed houses and shot sporadically to scare residents.

Eyewitnesses added that the assailants extended their assault to Kirchinga market, where troops of the Nigerian military attempted to repel them, but the troops were overpowered by the suspected terrorists, forcing them to retreat.
Tuesday’s attack comes three days after suspected insurgents belonging to the Islamic State – West Africa Province (ISWAP) launched an attack on Garaha District on Saturday, February 21, 2026, which reportedly left three people dead and resulted in the burning of military and school facilities in the village.
Residents who spoke to Humangle about Saturday’s attack said it lasted about an hour and that a military camp was set ablaze, forcing soldiers to flee for safety.
