Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar-Fage, has ordered a manhunt for bandits who launched a reprisal attack on communities in Kankia Local Government Area of the state.

Bandits regrouped and launched an assault around midday on Saturday on Gwalgoro Village in Gyaza/Kunduru Ward, a few hours after security operatives thwarted an earlier attack. The reprisal attack left 11 people dead.

The spokesperson of the Katsina State Police Command said in a statement that the bandits sustained injuries and fled Matinjin Village after security operatives repelled the attack.

The state’s commissioner of police commiserated with the relatives of the victims of the attack, which he described as “cowardly and barbaric”.

He assured residents that all those responsible would be tracked down and prosecuted. The commissioner said additional tactical teams had been deployed to affected communities to strengthen ongoing security operations.

“Bush combing operations and coordinated patrols are ongoing to track the fleeing suspects. We will not relent until peace and normalcy are fully restored,” he said.

“Further developments will be communicated as investigations progress.”
