Ukraine has stepped up security measures along its border regions with Belarus over concerns that Russia could launch a fresh offensive from the north with support from its key ally.
Ukraine’s Security Service, SBU, said on Thursday that its personnel and the military had begun enhanced security operations in northern parts of the country.
In a statement by the agency, the measures include intensified inspections, tighter monitoring of individuals and properties, and broader counter-security operations aimed at deterring possible hostile actions.

Kyiv has repeatedly warned in recent weeks that Moscow could use Belarusian territory as a launch point for another assault on Ukraine, including a potential advance towards the capital.
Russia dismissed the allegations earlier this week, with the Kremlin describing Ukraine’s claims as an attempt to escalate tensions.
The development comes as Russia and Belarus conduct joint nuclear military drills this week involving troops, aircraft and strategic missile systems.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Wednesday that Ukraine was preparing responses to every possible scenario if Russia attempted to widen the conflict.
Russia used Belarus as a staging ground during its 2022 invasion of Ukraine, which has since developed into Europe’s deadliest conflict since the Second World War.
