The Lagos State Government has postponed Wednesday’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) papers after traditional authorities announced that the Oro Festival would be observed in parts of Ikorodu.

In a statement shared on X on Tuesday, the state government said the decision followed consultations with relevant stakeholders after the announcement of the traditional festival.

It said the affected examination papers would now be held on July 7, 2026, while all other BECE papers would proceed as originally scheduled.

The Oro Festival is a traditional Yoruba religious observance associated with communal cleansing, the enforcement of customary laws, and rites performed following the death of a monarch.

The festival involves male-only rituals and movement restrictions, during which women and non-initiates are expected to remain indoors.
