The rescued principal of Community High School in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, Mrs Rachael Alamu, has revealed that two teachers abducted alongside pupils were killed by their captors to pressure the government into meeting the kidnappers’ demands.

Speaking on Monday after she and other rescued victims were received by Governor Seyi Makinde at the Oyo State Government House, Alamu said the abductors deliberately executed the teachers because they believed the killings would force authorities to act.

According to her, Mathematics teacher Michael Oyedokun was beheaded on the second day of their captivity, while another teacher, Esiyan Adegboye, was shot dead during the initial attack on the school in May.

Alamu said the abductees spent 56 days in the open forest, enduring harsh weather conditions while struggling to protect and comfort the children.

She recalled that although she was not physically assaulted, several of the younger pupils were severely beaten whenever they cried or made noise, leaving many of them traumatised.

Despite the ordeal, she said the victims remained hopeful of being rescued, drawing strength from their faith and the belief that people were praying for them.

The rescued pupils and teachers were formally handed over to the Oyo State Government after receiving medical care and psychosocial support at the Military Hospital in Ibadan.
