Twelve people were reportedly killed on Monday in an attack on Nzangula village in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, barely two weeks after more than 10 people were killed in a separate attack in Hong Local Government Area.
A resident, who spoke to The Punch on condition of anonymity, said Boko Haram members invaded the community in the early hours of Monday, shooting residents and setting houses ablaze.
The resident said 11 bodies had so far been recovered, while hundreds of people remained missing as search teams and security personnel combed the forest for the victims.
“For now, 11 dead bodies have been recovered, while hundreds are still missing. The search team and security men are in the forest searching for the missing people,” he said.
Another resident said his wife and two other family members were among those killed during the attack.
The Chairman of Gombi Local Government Area, Markus Ishaya, confirmed the incident, saying 12 people were killed in Nzangula village, Guyaku Ward.
Speaking by telephone, Ishaya said two other victims were injured and receiving treatment at the Cottage Hospital in Gombi.
He added that one woman was abducted during the attack, while an EYN Church was burnt and three houses were set ablaze. Two shops were also vandalised.
He said, “Report from Nzangula village of Guyaku Ward in Gombi LGA stated that 12 people were killed, two were injured and are presently receiving treatment at Cottage Hospital in Gombi.
“One lady was abducted; EYN Church was burnt alongside three houses, while two shops were vandalised.”
