Former US President Barack Obama has criticised President Donald Trump’s administration over rising living costs, the war, and governance during a rally in Ohio on Saturday, urging voters to support Democratic candidates before the November 3 midterm elections.
Speaking in Cleveland, Obama described the past two years under Trump as a period of “chaos and cruelty and corruption and incompetence”.
“After two years of chaos and cruelty and corruption and incompetence, the likes of which we have not seen in the modern era, you get a chance to say, ‘Enough is enough,’” Obama said.

“We are voting for change right here in Ohio,” he added.
Obama blamed the Trump administration for rising living costs, which remain a major concern for voters following soaring fuel prices.
“The current president chose to make a series of bad decisions,” he said. “Most importantly, he decided to start an unnecessary war that nobody asked for.”

The former president also urged voters to take advantage of early voting, which is already open in Ohio.
“Don’t procrastinate, don’t equivocate,” Obama said.
Obama remains popular among many Democratic supporters. He is campaigning to help his party’s candidates in the midterm elections, which will determine control of Congress.
In Ohio, former Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown is seeking a political comeback against Republican Senator Jon Husted. The state’s governorship is also being contested by Democrat Amy Acton and Republican Vivek Ramaswamy, a former 2024 presidential candidate.

Polls cited in the report give Democrats a slight lead in both races, although the contests are expected to be close. Nationally, polling suggests Democrats could regain control of the House of Representatives. However, the Senate race is expected to be more competitive.
After the Cleveland rally, Obama is scheduled to travel to Detroit, Michigan, on Saturday evening to campaign alongside Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed.
Democrats currently hold both of Michigan’s Senate seats. However, El-Sayed, who represents the party’s left wing, faces a close contest against Republican Mike Rogers.
