Manchester United overturned a two-goal deficit to defeat Roma 3-2 in a dramatic Champions League clash on Tuesday, handing manager Michael Carrick a vital reprieve.
Fans at Old Trafford initially voiced fierce frustration, throwing tennis balls onto the pitch and directing hostile chants at the Glazer family after Mathias Soule and Donyell Malen scored early goals to put Roma ahead.
However, Bruno Fernandes ignited the second-half revival by converting a retaken penalty in the 58th minute.

“We knew that the fans would be behind us until the last day; we just had to get a result for them,” Fernandes stated after the match.
Matheus Cunha then struck twice in three minutes to secure the victory before receiving a late red card in stoppage time.
Carrick reflected on the turnaround, saying, “I spoke at half-time about being positive. Anything can happen here; I’ve seen it many times over the years. You need something to go our way, and the boys were fantastic in the second half.”

Elsewhere in the competition, holders Paris Saint-Germain delivered a ruthless performance, thrashing Villarreal 6-0 to maintain their perfect start.
PSG set a new Champions League record by scoring four first-half goals in just eight minutes through Joao Neves, Desire Doue, Senny Mayulu, and Fabian Ruiz.
“We were impressive throughout, and we are really pleased even if it is very difficult for Villarreal,” remarked PSG manager Luis Enrique.
“But it is hard when you play against a team like us that presses constantly.”
In other fixtures, Bayern Munich secured a 2-0 victory over Atletico Madrid through second-half strikes from Lennart Karl and Konrad Laimer, while Inter Milan comfortably defeated Feyenoord 3-0.
