Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has dissolved the governing council of Osun State University (UNIOSUN).

He, however, reconstituted it immediately.

The governor also retained Prof. Adewale Abiodun Oladipo, who chaired the dissolved council, as Pro-Chancellor and chairman of the newly reconstituted governing council.

The changes were announced in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed.

Rasheed said Adeleke dissolved the existing council “in a bid to strengthen the institution’s governance structures” while reconstituting a new council to “avoid gaps in the operation of the globally rated university.”

Other members of the new governing council are Alhaji Gbadegesin Lawal; former Osun State deputy governor Otunba Titi Laoye-Ponnle; Akinola Franklin Omoniyi; Chief Funminiyi Awotide;  Orija Samuel Adebayo; and Adewale Adetayo Bola.

Adeleke charged the reconstituted council with sustaining the university’s existing performance and supporting its management in delivering further innovations.

The new council is scheduled to be inaugurated on Monday, August 31, 2026.

The move comes as the state government seeks to maintain continuity in the administration of Osun State University while refreshing its governing structure.

Osun State University, established by the Osun State Government in 2006, operates across multiple campuses in the state, with its main campus in Osogbo.

The newly constituted council is expected to assume responsibility for providing strategic oversight of the institution and supporting its management in advancing its academic and administrative objectives.
