The African Energy Chamber (AEC) and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Africa have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen technical collaboration, knowledge sharing and innovation across Africa’s energy industry.

The agreement establishes a strategic partnership between the AEC, a leading energy advocacy organisation on the continent, and SPE, a global technical body with more than 127,000 members across 145 countries.

Under the partnership, SPE Africa will provide technical expertise, advisory support and industry insights to enhance the AEC’s conferences, strategic programmes and policy engagements, as Africa continues efforts to expand energy development and attract investment.

The organisations said the collaboration would promote technical excellence and support the delivery of sustainable, commercially viable and efficiently executed energy projects across the continent.

As part of the agreement, SPE Africa will contribute technical content, expert participation and sector-specific guidance across AEC platforms. A Joint Working Group will also be created to coordinate activities, identify priority areas and oversee the implementation of agreed initiatives.

The partnership will also focus on talent development and capacity building, with both organisations seeking to expand opportunities for students and young professionals in the energy sector.

Through SPE Africa’s networks, including its student and young professional communities, the initiative will provide early-career engineers with opportunities to engage with industry experts, gain practical experience and contribute to the growth of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education across Africa.

AEC Executive Chairman, NJ Ayuk, said the partnership would help strengthen technical discussions within Africa’s energy industry while ensuring that investment translates into projects that are efficient, competitive and sustainable.

He noted that combining SPE Africa’s technical expertise with the AEC’s industry platforms would create opportunities for innovation, practical solutions and stronger collaboration across the sector.

“By bringing SPE Africa’s global technical expertise into closer alignment with the Chamber’s platforms and advocacy, we are ensuring that Africa is not only attracting investment, but also delivering projects that are efficient, competitive and built to last. This collaboration will strengthen the quality of technical dialogue across the industry while advancing capacity building and STEM development, creating space where innovation, practical solutions and meaningful collaboration can move the sector forward,” NJ Ayuk stated.

The agreement will also support SPE Africa’s involvement in key industry platforms, including the Africa Technology Conference (ATC), which brings together energy professionals, technical experts and industry leaders to discuss technological advancements, engineering solutions and sustainable practices.

SPE Africa President, Riverson Oppong, said the partnership would enable both organisations to combine their strengths to improve knowledge sharing, build capacity and accelerate innovation within Africa’s energy sector.

“SPE Africa is proud to partner with the African Energy Chamber to support the advancement of Africa’s energy sector through technical excellence and professional collaboration. By connecting our global expertise with AEC’s influential platforms, we are creating new opportunities to strengthen capacity, share knowledge and accelerate innovation,” Oppong said.

The MoU establishes a two-year framework for collaboration, with specific projects and deliverables to be developed through subsequent agreements.

The partnership comes as African countries continue to seek greater investment, technical expertise and innovative solutions to expand energy access and strengthen their role in the global energy market.
